Lana Del Rey Falls to Pieces on 'Cherry,' the Latest Taste of 'Lust for Life'
publish date: 2017-05-22
Despite blessing us with several songs off of her forthcoming studio album, including 'Love,' 'Coachella (Woodstock In My Mind)' and title track 'Lust For Life' (the video for which just dropped today), Lana Del Rey's remained tight-lipped about the LP's release date, and the official press releases offer nothing helpful beyond 'due out later this year.'
Evidently she's enjoying this endless teasing thing, because the Paradise performer's just gone and dropped yet another song from the upcoming album: 'Cherry.'
The interesting thing about 'Cherry,' which Lana debuted live at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA at KROQ's 2017 Weenie Roast y Festival! over the weekend, is that it sounds like a return to her more sullen and stormy Ultraviolence sound. It's a romantic ode, but there's that oh-so-Lana brand of melancholy to the slow-moving production, full of the pounding drums and hypnotic guitars that characterized her sophomore record.
'It's like smiling when the firing squad's against you, but you just stand up / 'Cause darlin', darlin', darlin' / I fall to pieces when I'm with you,' she dreamily croons.
It sounds great. Know what would be even better, though? A release date.
Watch below, and catch a glimpse of the Queen of choreography rehearsing the track on her Instagram.
